Dentures....?

My doctor has advised me to remove my teeth and wear dentures. Before going into it, I am scared whether I will be able to speak and eat well after wearing it. Please help.

Dentures....?
I have them and I wouldnt trade them for the world! No toothaches no nothing! You will have a lisp for about 5-7 days if that long then you will get used to them! Eating does take awhile maybe a month or two. That is mainly because your mouth is still healing.
Reply:Yes! you will! My mom was speaking a day or two after she got hers in. She looks better and feels better and she is no longer in pain!
Reply:So the doctor has advised to remove your teeth and give you dentures. Apparently the dentures would be full dentures or at least this is what I can make out from your question. You know unless it is completely unavoidable and all your teeth are completely gone cases (cavity infested, loose, or you have some other problem) I have seen quite a few dentists who would like to try to save as many by filling them up and then capping or crowning them, and then making partials. Partials are always better fitting because the grip wires hold the partials around and tightly. Full dentures will always pose a problem. Eating hard foods would be difficult and not without exposing to everyone that you are wearing dentures, you will have to carry a pocket knife to cut apples and other hard foods, and then have the embarrassment of taking them out and washing and cleaning them at least three times a day, what to talk of the discomfort and uneasy feeling one has all the time. So even if you have two molars or two grinders on each side of your mouth, and a couple of front teeth up and down, ask your doctor if these could be saved by filling and capping and then get partials made. There are very, very few people who are really happy with full dentures. The gum line never always remains the same, the slightest food particle sticking under the dentures will force you to go to the washroom and wash out the stuff, and every one year or even more you will have to need to have slight adjustments done. As I said partials have much better hold, and are much more comfortable than the full dentures. This is all I can say for now. Take a second opinion and see if any other doctor can save your teeth. Teeth well filled and capped will last 15 to 30 years depending on your dental hygiene. Good luck.
Reply:I am 36 yo and have had a full upper denture and partial lower for just shy of two years. I would recommend a full upper vs. a partial upper, but if they can save at least one one the lower.....do whatever it costs. Keeping at least one tooth on the bottom will help decrease the amount of bone loss that one goes through after the teeth are removed.
