DENTURES uncomfortable, I cant stand to have them in, Does this get any better ????

I am only 38 years old but due to several chronic illnesses' that affect my immune system, I lost all of my teeth, they all had to go....I have had dentures 7 mos now, I hate having them in, I work out of the home, so I never put my teeth in...I know It bothers my boyfriend, but having my top palate covered makes my mouth itch, I cant taste food as well, I HAVE to use Fixodent, as My illness causes dry mouth.....


I cannot keep the bottom ones in at all, my lower ridge in front may be 1/8 inch, so they love to flip out even with a fixative....


Dont get me wrong they are fitted very well and look fantastic in, I just have to smile while in complete uncomfortable,irritation.





Will I ever get used to these things??? To where I do not feel like I have a thick retainer in my mouth ?? LOL

yes it can get better, but while it is irritating and itchy it probably won't.





if you are getting itchyness you may have a slight candida infection (probably made worse by your lack of saliva) you should get that treated. try soaking your dentures in a quatre cup of white vinegar and water at night to help kill any candida growing on your denture.





the taste part is something you have to get used to, but perhaps if they were a bit thinner you wouldn't be like such thick retainers.





Perhaps you should see a specialist prosthodontist ( a dentist who has specialized in making dentures) they may be able to make you a more balanced denture that doesn't flip out so much.





The other very expensive option you might like to consider is implant supported dentures... basically a couple of titanium screws in your jaw which clip your dentures on... that way they can be a lot smaller and not cover all your palate and they won't move around, you won't need fixative either. you may want to look into that.
Reply:Raven, you do not say whether those dentures are the ones put in immediately after your teeth were extracted or a set placed after healing took place.





Most likely you need to see the dentist and explain all of your concerns to him or her. If they are only your immediate dentures then you should get fitted for a more permanent set that will fit the contours of your healed mouth a lot better. They will be less bulky than what you currently have. The use of the adhesive may be contributing to your dry mouth condition, if it is all medical related I have heard that there are rinses you can use to help with the dry mouth but a properly fitting denture usually does not require adhesives.





With the lower, only wearing it and practicing with it will change how you feel about it. Your dentist may suggest something like an implant system to help stabilize the lower denture, It all has to start at the dentist so make an appointment and see whats what!
