New immediate dentures?

I had 24 teeth extracted on July 2nd and had the immediate dentures placed. I have been really lucky so far, haven't had much pain or discomfort, it's actually going really well and the healing process is moving along on time. Almost all of my swelling is gone and in 6-8 weeks I get my soft liners. I do have one huge question though so far. I don't want to seem a fool asking the dentist because I have brought it up and they seem to blow me off saying it's just the swelling. But is it perfectly normal for your upper lip to seem to stick out further than it should? My smile seems so fake and disfigured because of it. Like I said my face swelling is all gone but could it be swelling from the gums still since they have stitches in them? I just don't want this "fake"look to stay. It's almost like the upper denture is pushing my top lip out. Has anyone else gone through this and/or know if it will look right when it's all said and done? I am very nervous about it. Thank you.

New immediate dentures?
It is the denture that is pushing your upper lip out. Not swelling. A denture should offer some support for your upper lip, however, it can make your upper lip feel to "full" if the denture is too thick behind your lip. Now, since you now have a plastic denture flange over your upper jaw, where you didn't have one before, I would expect some amount of fullness feeling to your lip. And with it being an immediate denture it is not like this could have been checked and corrected before hand like it can be with a non immediate denture.

Talk to your dentist. He should be able to thin out the flange somewhat if you are finding your lip is being pushed out too far.
Reply:Great answer *thank you I meant lol Sorry for the typo Report It

Reply:You probably still have swelling to some extent, and yes, your upper denture will push your upper lip out somewhat even when the swelling is all gone. Not only are your gums swollen but your lip is likely swollen as well.. But, as everything settles in, you will find that it is barely noticeable to you and likely not noticeable at all to others.

Good luck. It is an ordeal, I know.
Reply:Like the two answeres before me, yes the denture can push your lip out some. I haven't seen it with top dentures so much as bottom ones though. But some adjustments can be made, and if you still aren't happy with it after these, by all means talk to your dentist about it. You should be 100% satisfied with your new teeth and there is no reason it shouldn't be satisfactory for you. Good luck!
