I am needing dentures because my teeth are beyond repair and was needing to get in touch with a dentist in the austin, tx area. I am 25 and wanted to know of any similar experiences with getting dentures at a young age and how it turned out
I am 25 and about to get dentures. Have you or someone else had a similar experience ? Any dentists in Austin?
I needed a restoration too by my late 20s. I asked my dentists about dentures and they told me it was a bad idea for someone so young. Basically, your whole mouth health is more than just your teeth. By putting in dentures, the bones of your jaw/skull won't be working against anything (no natural chewing motion and therefore no pressure as there would be with teeth present), so that facial bone can recede. That can mean you won't even be able to wear dentures after a period of time, theoretically much sooner than for a person who does not get dentures until they are older.
Make sure you understand fully what you are getting into before getting dentures when you are so young. If at all possible, implants, crowns, and/or bridges would probably be better. Absolutely get more than one opinion! See if there is a dental school near you; they may take you as a teaching case and help you if you don't have insurance.
I'm having 26 crowns put on and had root canals and crown lengthening surgeries as well. It's been a long process but well worth going to a specialist and having my dental problems repaired correctly. This project is pushing $30k, so I understand how expensive it can be. You need to find someone who does this kind of work routinely, not a regular dentist in most cases: your smile's appearance will affect you emotionally as well as physically and you need someone who understands the artistic side of this as well as the anatomy of bite/skull/etc.
Reply:you should get implants instead.
