Medicaid in my state pays $800 for a full set of dentures made. A private pay doctor I just consulted today charges $4,500. These prices do not include teeth extractions or any other services. What exactly is going on here? First, are Medicaid dentures made of seriously inferior products to cost so little? Second, what possibly justifies asking $4,500 for the same thing? I understand the "why's" in cost differences between government programs and private pay services. However, I'm trying to understand what the inside information is behind this--what's REALLY going on--why such a HUGE disparity in charges? Anyone working in the field care to share insights? Thanks for any help.
Why are the costs of dentures so different?
I dont have an exact answer for you. It differs from Dentist to dentist. I would encourage you to vist this website.

I signed up with them online over 2 years ago for all my dentistry work. They have helped me save thousands of dollars from extractions, root canals, cleanings. I know for a fact that all services are included especially orthodontics and dentures in the benefits without sacrificing service or quality. They had my membership active in 2 hours and was able to use the same day. I am very thankful that I found them. Check to see if they are in your area.
Good Luck. Hope this helps
Reply:kinda simple you pay for what you get
and everyone wants teeth in there mouth to eat and look better
so we get shaffed
everything is going up
milk and gas cost the same. However no extra money to buy
Reply:the difference is indeed in the quality of the materials used to make them. Mine are porcelain teeth where the medicare teeth are a plastic.
the first set I got were dictated by the insurance company. the dentist was totally uninterested in if they fit correctly or not. when they broke in less time than they should have, the insurance company would not pay for another set. My current set were private pay entirely and are the expensive ones. They are a joy to wear, and the current dentist makes sure I get no sores from them and insists that I come in every 6 months for making sure they are fitting correctly or he sends them to be relined.
it is the quality of the materials used, and the quality of the dentist services that makes a huge difference.
And yes, I have dropped my dental insurance as they don't support good quality. I would rather scrimp and pay the private pay for the better quality and service.
Reply:The materials used in making the dentures makes a lot of difference in their price but, whoever quoted you that price is ripping people off!
Reply:You get what you pay for. To get a well fitting denture it takes skill. Any lab can make a piece of plastic with teeth stuck in them but not every lab has the expertise to create a functional, beautiful denture. If you get an inferior denture it will not fit correctly and end up damaging the gums due to the friction of it rocking back and forth. Lowers generally never fit well and people just have to learn to use them because there is not enough surface for suction. It's like a car. A cheap car can be a lemon and so can dentures. This is an investment in your quality of life.
