Dentures... HELP!?

okay, i just got my dentures last thursday, and my top plate is doing fine, it's just that my bottom plate is rubbing blisters on my gums, how do i stop them from doing that? when will the torture end?!

Dentures... HELP!?
Usually wearing new dentures will cause some irritation. particularly the bottom ones.

This is because the bottom ones are usually not as stable, due to having less suction to hold them in (you have to put a cutout for the tongue)

Additionally if you have not very much bone on the lower to support the denture, this can make stablisation difficult.

However, your denturist should be able to adjust the areas putting too much pressure on your gum which may resolve the problem.

Normally I advise patients to leave their plate out if it is going to cause blisters, because it makes it very difficult to remove the high spots when you have swelling.

My advise is give them a break for a little while.

If you sitll have trouble keeping them still after many adjustments, you could get implants to clip them onto later.
Reply:Maybe try polygrip. Good Luck!
Reply:lower dentures are more difficult to master, make an appt to see your dentist for a ease in the mean time rinse your mouth out with warm salty water and leave them out at night time
Reply:Those are called sore spots. They happen on occasion. What you do is call your dentist, and set up an appointment. He can rub those out in a heartbeat. What he does is find the sore spot on your gum and put a dab of blue "ink" on it.....then you put your dentures back in and the blue spot transfers to the place on the dentures that is causing the trouble, then he files that spot down. Until your gums have healed, you could get a few more of these sore spots, but they can all be rubbed out easily by the dentist. Twice daily rinses with warm salt water helps a lot.

In the meantime, check out this denture support group blog......they helped me a lot when I was going through my denture "issues".

Reply:In my opinion what you need to do is make an appointment with the dentist who made your dentures to have an "adjustment" to them letting him or her know where they are rubbing ( many times this comes from an area which needs to be filed down...a rough spot). My dentist also always told me to keep my dentures in 24/7 for the first few weeks so that I could adjust to having them in my mouth and to only take them out to clean them. Fixodent complete is the best stuff out there for poorly fitting dentures, and bottom dentures are much harder to adjust to than top ones. Have the dentist file the areas where the denture hurts (mine would have checked for rub points before I left the office when they were fitted) and you might have to have him or her do this several times until everything is 100% comfortable...

Good Luck.
Reply:a recent conversation with my dentists enlightened me on this subject. he is 74 yrs old and still in office everyday. he says there is never a set of dentures that is perfect. you may want to try and get implants istead. depending on your insurance you may want to try and go to a dr. that will fit your dentures costumely, these places that advertise you get them in a hurry is set up on what a mouth should be like not what your mouth is actually. think about it carefully.
