I have a question about dentures.......?

Did you have to have all of your good teeth pulled to get the dentures? If you did, did the dentist actually put you out under anesthetic, or was it done with just a local novocain shot?

Did you get your dentures the same day your teeth were pulled?

I have a question about dentures.......?
In order to get "dentures" you have to have all of your teeth removed. Dentures replace all of your teeth.

If you still have teeth that are in good condition, then you will be able to keep those teeth and you will get what is called a "partial denture". This will allow you to replace the bad/missing teeth while maintaining your good teeth.

Now, if your scared of getting your teeth pulled the dentist can take the impressions, get your dentures made, and send you and your dentures to an oral surgeon to have your teeth pulled. This will add an additional cost to your procedure, although some people feel that this is well worth the cost!

You can have your teeth pulled wait several weeks and then have your dentures made. The good thing....your dentures will fit pretty good with some minor adjustments the day of delivery. The bad thing....you will be without teeth for several weeks.

If your dentures are put in the same day you have your teeth pulled (aka: immediate dentures) there will be a lot of visits to your dentist to keep them fitting and then the cost of a permanent liner when your gums have finished healing.

Hope this helps!!
Reply:If you have "good teeth", you would be a candidate for a partial denture, not a full denture. They don't usually put you "out". Normally, you have impressions done before having your teeth pulled and you would get them the day the teeth are taken out.
Reply:yes, all teeth are pulled for dentures. otherwise it is called a partial. it is best to get IV conscious sedation. it can all be done in one sitting. your temporary dentures are ready the same day, but you can wait a few days before wearing them (they will have to be fitted by the dentist) if you want to. after that, you wear them 2 to 3 months before you can get permanent ones, because the gums will shrink.
