I have reseeding gums very sensitive teeth. Do I go for Dentures?
The best solution is to go to a dentist who will properly evaluate the condition you have. If you have receding gums, you are at a greater risk for root surface cavities. There are dental schools and community health centers that can provide you with less expensive dental care

Is it true you can buy dentures from shops?

I mean other then the NHS %26amp; dentists, if so what kind of shops can you get them from, doesnt matter if they are good quality or not as long it looks like ive got teeth, lol,.by the way how much are dentures from your local dentist %26amp; not the NHS, thanks.

Is it true you can buy dentures from shops?
No, dentures are custom made to fit each individual case. They are not pre-fabricated. Price varies with each dentist, you should discuss this with your dentist or for a referral if he doesn't do denture work.
Reply:I wouldn't think so. You have to have them specially made to fit your mouth.
Reply:I usually just pick mine up from funeral homes.
Reply:fake dentures tht is
Reply:Hi,I have a friend in Wales who buys hers.Look in yellow pages %26amp; Good Luck
Reply:my jeweler makes all sorts of "grilles" out of gold silver, with diamonds etc...

also if you go across the border into Mexico you can get a full set of dentures for $100-$300 %26amp; they are just as good as what you get in the states that are 10x the cost
Reply:You have to get them from a dentist. They pull your teeth and then put the new ones in. They have to be made just for you.
Reply:to have a set of dentures made it takes 4 visits and the denture fit you and you only. if you buy them from somewhere and they have don't been made to fit you you can end up with all different things.

dentures and made to fit around you gums and this is done by the size and shape of you mouth as everyone is different, they also have to fit your bite if this is wrong you can end up with pain in your jaws.

on the NHS dentures will cost you just under £200.

please go to the dentist

Reply:Never heard of over the counter false teeth hun. I had some dentures made about 5 years ago not on the nhs, and they were about £400. Why not try a teaching dental hospital, they may do them for you for free or for minimal charge.

If you work, but get working tax credits then you get free dental treatment, including dentures.

NHS dentures are just as good as private made ones, if that is a concern for you.

Mine now are NHS ones and they are just fine.
Reply:A shop???? What kind of shop??? A chop shop??? A gift shop???

Would you get a heart transplant at your local 7-eleven?

This is your health that you are talking about. You need to be concerned about function (being able to actually chew) along with appearance. If you value your health at all get the procedure done correctly by a dental health professional.

Of course if this is no value to you then you can always go toothless. Good luck with that!!!

Am I safe to use tap water in Mexico to clean dentures?

I'm going to Mexico on vacation soon, specifically to Cozumel. I've been there before so I know we will be provided with a bottle of purified water in the bathroom. I recently had to have dentures fitted and I have found that warm water is best for cleaning the denture adhesive off the false teeth. When I go to Cozumel am I ok to use the warm tap water to clean the dentures as long as I rinse them with mouthwash afterwards? Or should I stick to the purified water provided. I don't want to get any nasty tummy bugs, managed to avoid them last time we were there

Am I safe to use tap water in Mexico to clean dentures?
It all depends on where you STAY! If you're staying at a budget property, then yes, use bottled water. If you're staying at a resort or high end hotel, then most likely all the water is ran through a filtration system. You should simply ask the hotel staff. When I send my clients (I own a travel agency) to Mexico, it is normally to all-inclusive resorts. At these types of properties they have filtration and purification systems for even the tap water. So in these cases, there are no problems. In all of the times I have went down to these resorts I recommend, I have used and drank the water, and it is fine. The best thing to do is just ask the staff/manager if the water is filtrated or purified. You can find out travel related information from my company's website at http://readyforvacation.com also our company just started a FREE Travel Forum. So, check it out. Hope this helps you and others.
Reply:you were lucky last time. i would avoid drinking the water or using the water even to clean your dentures. warm the bottled water in a microwave. i got sick when i went to mexico. i used the tap water to brush my teeth. i also ate everything in sight, including the food @ the outdoor market places. i was loving it for a couple days and then it was over. i was drinking pepto for a week AFTER i came home. better safe than sorry!
Reply:girl I'm from cancun and that is false. ok You look for a good water like: bonafont, electropura, cristal, and more. are good.

I am 35 yrs old and I'm scheduled to get dentures this month, I have 2 questions?

I finally got Dental coverage this month and I'll be getting dentures before the 1st of the year. I have a gum disease that has caused 75%of my teeth to go bad. I have always practiced good hygiene but the Dentist says that all my teeth have got to go. We discussed implants but they are way out of my price range.

My 1st question is what can I expected from here on out ?

And 2nd I have two gold teeth. When my teeth started to break I didn't have any insurance and could not afford crowns so I got gold instead . What I would like to do is see if the Dentist can remove the gold and put them on the same two teeth on the dentures ? No, I'm not trying to be cool, I just want people to not notice immediately that I have dentures. Call me vain, but I am a young looking 35 yr old female and I really am stressed about this . HELP !

I am 35 yrs old and I'm scheduled to get dentures this month, I have 2 questions?
SHELIA I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I'M 38 I'M GETTING MINE . I RATHER HAVE NICE LOOKING TEETH THEN THESE RAGEDY LOOKING ONES THAT I HAVE
Reply:Q #1: Below is a great link to everything you might need to know about dentures. It's from my favorite site. Hope this helps.

http://www.simplestepsdental.com/SS/ihtS...

Q #2: You have every right to ask this. I don't know if they can put the gold in the acrylic teeth (which denture teeth are). You may be charged extra by the dentist because they may get charged more by the dental laboratory. I don't think anyone will notice unless you point it out...if they do they just might think you got a porcelain crowns instead. But you can at least recieve the gold (for it is yours) and make a nice necklace out of it.
Reply:First of all it's going to be painful in the beginning from the extractions and getting used to the dentures.

Second, people are going to notice immediately that something's up because you're going to have perfect teeth all of a sudden. You are going to sound different during the adjustment period and your teeth will stand out.

Don't trip. A close member of my family had the same thing done for similar reasons when she was about the same age and she's in her 70's now. No one really cared about the dentures.
Reply:I wouldn't think you're vain if you're 35 and willing to sport dentures. Real vain people would whore themselves out for a nice set of teeth.

Anyway, gold teeth? That's kind of tacky.
Reply:You may want to get a 2nd opinion with another dentist who can counsel you so that you feel comfortable with your decision. My sister had to have false teeth at 16 yrs old and everything worked out OK for her. Don't worry about what people think. Do what you want to do and do it for yourself. At 35 you are still very young and deserve to look nice and your teeth are an important part of that look. I wish you good luck on this and good for you. Go Girl

u r history suggests that u suffered from chronic generalised periodontitis dut 2 which u have lost u r teeth , this happened jsut b'coz of simple thing but major source behind ur problem that wasb'coz of calculus hwich ahs eaten away ur bone , see to that ur brush morning anf evening ata the same time use chlorhexidine 0.2% mouth wash b'4r or after tooth brush twice daily in th emorning and evening before catching sleep, this will prevent plaque formation and theres no way calculus can form , thats how u can save u r rest of ur teeth

once u start wearing ur dentures , these r the some instructions to follow :

once the dentures delivered , learn the correct patheay of insertion and removal ,s o that it doesn't hurt u r tissue

wear dentures for 1 week , review to ur dentist after a week , to check for sore spots .

remove ur dentures at night times before catching sleep , this will make ur tissues to have adequate blood supply .

when dentures r out from ur mouth they should b kept in water and cleansed throroughly with softbrush with any tooth pastes.

and secondly ur 2 tooth has got gold fillings , u were not clear whter u had a gold fillings or gold crown ( i'm sorry if i 'm not clear with ur question ) any ways i 'll give u solution for both of them . if its a case of gold filling it can be removed and repalce with either composites or get the tooth extracted and get it repalced , mind u if ur dentist has planned to get support of ur dentures from those gold teeth , ur dentist is the right person for ur solutions . don't worry every thing is possible in this dentistry

Dr. srikanth , any queries u can mail me
Reply:Wearing dentures is not easy at first, patients have trouble talking with them in and gums shrinking where the dentures become loose. Also sore spots appear from time to time and will need to have them adjusted a few times. The gold teeth are kind of outdated and does not look too good. But if you go with the regular teeth people will think you had them changed to porcelain crowns, they will not automatically think you have dentures. If you still want the gold the doctor can order 2 gold teeth to but on the denture to look just like you have now. No one will know the difference.
Reply:Just a thought... They will take an impression of the gums after extraction but I know people whose teeth were differently sized than the dentures they received... Ask them to take an impression 'before' extraction so they can match your real teeth... and get an extra one casting of real teeth for you to keep because they will throw it away when they are done.

I'm sure they will charge you for it but isn't keeping the same 'look' more important?

Taking a breathalyzer while wearing partial dentures.?

My friend got pulled over and took a breathalyzer and failed. He had partial dentures and peridontal disease. Which i have read on some websites that can affect the breathalyzer test. due to the metal in the partial, alcolhol being trapped under the partial and having pockets in your mouth due to peridontal disease. Anyways this is his second Dui in three years and he took a deferred on the first and has been finished with the deferred for a year and two months. anyone who can answer please?

Taking a breathalyzer while wearing partial dentures.?
it is possible, many things mess with the readings, the machines are not accurate. never take the test,it is a bad thing
Reply:Yeah you gotta watch out for that denture creme. Potent stuff huh?

Is 5000.00 too much for dentures?

My wife went today to the dentist about getting dentures.her teeth are all very bad.Only 2 of her teeth are going to be surgical extractions, the rest are simple extractions. Our insurance will only pay 1000.00.They say it is going to cost us 5000.00.Is this about right??? I thought maybe 500-600 dollars max.Are they trying to rip us off???

Is 5000.00 too much for dentures?
I am going through the same experience with dentures.

Our insurance covers 2000, and we have already used that up with... a cleaning and a filling and 6 extractions.

I need to go to a oral surgeon for the last 13 extractions. Our bill we be around 7000. 2 friends of mine went to affordable dentures and had there impressions and dentures made the same day!!! ANd there bill was about 700. They went to a dental clinic the day before for the extractions. The dentures i am getting cost 3000... not counting all the extras the dentist charges!!! He cleaned my teeth...then pulled them. Made no sense to me, but made him dollars!!!!!!

Check your area and see if you have a Affordable Dentures there. My friends looks great!!!!! And still have cash in there pockets!!! Good luck..
Reply:It depends a lot on the part of the country you live in for dental prices. But I do believe a $500 set of dentures would be of terrible quality. You could also shop around at other dentists and see what they say.
Reply:Actually that sounds about right........I know everything in dentistry is expensive. However, it would be far more expensive to save the teeth. =)
Reply:Tha tis about 10 times what you would pay if you visited a good dentist in Mexcio, which is exactly what i did and saved my self over 90% on US prices

More info on where i went at the url below

Hope this helps

How do you get used to dentures, never worn them before .dreading the thought?

dreading the thought of having to wear dentures, alternitive big gaps in front best way to get used to them.serious answers only please.

How do you get used to dentures, never worn them before .dreading the thought?
The only way is to wear them constantly. The longer you wear them, the sooner you will adjust to them. Good Luck!!!!
Reply:id say stay with the gaps in your teeth !
Reply:all I know is that you should do what you can to keep your teeth if you still have them, brush, floss, use fluoride mouthwash.

It is possible to keep your teeth, my grandma is like 87 or 88 yrs old, and she still has ALL her REAL teeth.
Reply:You'll gradually get used to them. It should only take a few weeks before you are totally comfortable with them.

You may need to have them "readjusted" if you have too much trouble with them but you should gradually get used to them.

Take them out from time to time if they bother you. Soon you'll be leaving them in longer and longer.
Reply:just put them in and were them as long as you can stand it. then take them out. do this often. you will get use to it
Reply:get you some fixadent adheshive and put a few drops on either side it will hold them in place untill you get use to them.. That is how I got use to mine.My hardest thing was eating...but with the cream it was simple...Goodluck with yours...
Reply:Hi

I recently got dentures you can either wear them or you cant. I could not wear the standard detures as everytime I put them in they made me sick. I opt for paying extra for chrome ones which are lighter and slimmer and fit tighter therefore you do not notice them as much. I can only wear them for a period of time as I get a slight headache with them in.
Reply:Hello biker,

Just because there are big gaps doesn't mean dentures are inevitable.

There may be a bridge that can be done to close the spaces or braces.

If some teeth can be saved, a partial denture can be made which still enables you to taste and chew food normally.

Complete dentures are the thing to avoid if possible.

See a dentist and find out your options.
Reply:Dentures unless they are made by a skilled dental lab may not fit correctly. Unless the dentures are made correctly getting use to them is impossible. Often this is the case especially the lowers. When I was in need of something done drastically I looked at all options. I was wearing a the time a dental partial or flipper as they sometimes call it. I hated how the food would go immediately under it and often a trip to the restroom had to take place before i could finish a meal. I did some research and found out that once the teeth are gone that the bone in the jaws will begin to deteriorate. This is a fact. That is why I opted instead of dentures I got dental implants. Even if you can afford at least 2 which is the minimum will save your bone. Plus the denture they make will snap onto the implants making having to learn to use them a piece of cake. They are secure and do not move (no glue is needed)

See my avatar? That is my new smile. I have 8 implants on the top and 6 on the bottom. My new teeth screw onto the implants and they do not get removed even for cleanings.

Read this link: This link is the reason I chose not to get dentures.

What happens to someone's mouth when they get dentures?

does the dentist do something weird to make it flat inside? or pull some teeth out? or take anything else out before someone gets dentures? Does anyone besides elderly people have dentures?

What happens to someone's mouth when they get dentures?
The dentist first does an aveoplasty (after your teeth are gone) which is where they file you jaw line so that way when your gums heal, they have that smooth look to them. It helps the dentures fit better. And yes people of all ages get dentures, the youngest is like 7 years old or something, he didn't have any teeth when he was born, so he had to go the denture route.
Reply:Of course you have to have your teeth pulled first. You are better off getting dentures at the same time, your gums are still soft %26amp; you end up with a better fit. The Dentist sticks some thick paste on a tray and seats it over your exposed gums to make an impression. With a good fit the dentures remain in place by a vacuum. As your gums receed over time, you need a realignment or PolyGrip. Anybody that has lousey permanent teeth can get dentures, a cheaper way than multiple crowns, etc.
Reply:with dentures all teeth doees not have to be pulled and not only ''old people'' have them if your gigiva tissue has receeded or you have bad paradontal desiese witch is just nothing you can do about you or i can get it but measures can be taken before you have to result in dentures. their are other ways to have ""dentures other than that plastic peace that everyone has a mith about their are new persedures that can be done mimmal to no pain

Am I safe to use tap water in Mexico to clean dentures?
I live in Playa del Carmen. We are told that the tap water is clean, and I brush my teeth with it. I never drink it, though. There is a product you can get to purify water , called bactericide that you can get in most Walmart-like stores. It comes in a little bottle and would be easy to travel with. You might bring it with you and put your dentures in a glass with water and a few drops of that after you wash them in warm tap water. And while you are here, if you worry about tummy bugs, pick up Vermox tablets in a drug store here. You don't need a prescription. When you get home, take both tablets at once. Kills amoebas and other bad bugs. Have a great trip!!
Reply:Well, I'm from Mexico City and whenever I visit I use tap water to rinse my mouth guard and brush my teeth and nothing's ever happened to me nor anyone I know.

Does anyone know what implants over dentures are? What do thry mean?

Don't they have to take your dentures off to put implants in? Is this something new and does it feel and look good? What about the expense? Is it less than implants?

Does anyone know what implants over dentures are? What do thry mean?
Typically, a patient will have several dental implants placed into the jaw. Usually 2-6 implants will be placed (surgical procedure, implants screwed into bone)and allowed to heal for a period of 1-6months depending on the condition of the patients bone, there overall health and ability to heal. Once fully healed the implants are now fixated in the jaw and ready to anchor the denture. Depending on the number of implants placed, a denture can be made to clip into the individual implants, or a metal bar can be fabricated and attached inbetween the implants and the denture then fabricated to fit over the metal bar (Hadder bar) The hadder bar is typically more stable and provides more supprot for the denture, however it comes at a price. Usually, a minimum of four implants will be required, whereas with the "snap" to each implant option would only really require two implants.

If there is already a preexisting denture, many times it can be retrofit to the implants especially if there is no hadder bar. If there is going to be a bar between implants then more than likley you will need an intirely new denture to complete the process.

Overall nice way to go, 4-6 implants with a hadder bar. Youll be tearing into apples and corn on the cob, but I didnt say that!

I need to find someone who does extractions and dentures and accepts CareCredit Healthcare Financing.?
call 1-800-DENTIST ...seriously, I am not being a smart-***!!! Dial this number and they should be able to help you find a dentist or periodontist that is in your area that will hopefully accept your payment method.
Reply:Dental Cosmetic Treatment and Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges dental surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for american patients. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website.
Reply:Alot of practices accept Care Credit.I would call around and make an appointment with a Prosthodontist since they specialize in dentures.Definitely steer clear of the same day denture clinics, you will get what you pay for...cheap,ill-fitting dentures.

Silly question for anyone who wears dentures?

Is there any kind of gum you can chew without it sticking to your dentures? I've tried several different brands, but still cannot find one that doesn't stick ... and I miss chewing gum!!

Silly question for anyone who wears dentures?
I miss chewing gum too.My sister also wears dentures but she can chew dentene and freedent without it sticking to her dentures. However I can't.Gum seems to melt in my mouth now.I have went 18 years without chewing gum.Oh how I miss it.:^)
Reply:i do not think there is coz the denture can not replace your natural teeth , i think implants can solve this problem.
Reply:Serious answer to your question is a bit expensive though; get implants overdenture ($15k) and soon you will find enjoying once again your favourite habit - chewing gum - besides getting back to other better healthy activities like foods/fruits, and of course peanuts.
Reply:Freedent seems to work best for me, I was never a big gum chewer when I had real teeth so it is not something I crave but I have successfully chewed freedent.

I think that if your dentures fit properly and are very clean, then freedent could be the answer. Do you use and sort of adhesive?

Will medicaid pay (or help)for dentures or crowns?

have been wondering weither medicade will help pay for dentures or crowns fairly young male that used to enjoy to fight now has many missing teeth and would like to eat....

Will medicaid pay (or help)for dentures or crowns?
opsssss, i'm sorry, ur question was not clear for me... if u r interested, please contact me{ look in my profile} and re ask ur question... i'll help....
Reply:Medicaid will pay for dentures, not crowns. They will pay for the minimum service to allow you to function. Crowns are expensive, so not a covered benefit.

Your bigger difficulty will be finding a dentist who accepts Medicaid. Many dentists will no longer accept it since the government is very poor about paying out on claims. Your best bet is to go through the Yellow Pages and keep calling till you find one who accepts Medicaid.
Reply:Dentures, yes; crowns, maybe not.

Your Department of Social Services has a list of dentists who accept Medicaid, so get it from them (or your case worker).

Once you've found someone, ask them to send in an 'override' to request benefits for denture/crowns... xrays and a narrative from the dentist should be included.

Good luck to you!

:)
Reply:I'm on Medicaid and just had my teeth removed in Dec. I was under the impression that Medicaid will not pay for dentures, only to get your teeth pulled.

After reading some of the answers you've received, I'm going to call my case worker and find out the truth for myself, as well as you. :-)

How long will it take before my tongue gives up the gag reflex on Dentures?

I am 35, just had my operation on Friday and was inserted with a full upper denture. I have to wait until February for the gums and bone to heal before I get the bottom partials. I was fine until later in the evening on Friday when my gag reflex started going so I had to take them out. However when sleeping I didn't notice them. I have tried many times in the last 2 days to deal with the issue and it seems to be getting better, but my gums are still sore and trying to talk with them makes me sound funny. So there are actually 2 questions. Will the gag reflex stop with continued usage and how can I eat or is it when the gums are healed fully that I can put pressure on the upper dentures to eat a broader choice of foods than the blended diet I am currently using.

How long will it take before my tongue gives up the gag reflex on Dentures?
The gag reflex will probably decrease with continued usage. I would advise you to let the gums heal fully before attempting to eat other kinds of food.
Reply:give it some time, everybody has different healing times.after you get adjusted you will not even no they are there.the gag reflex goes away with time.ballpark id say a couple months.ive had mine for 7 yrs and it aint no different than putting on a pair of shades.becomes part of your routine.
Reply:Depending on how much retention you have, you may want to consider having the denture in a horseshoe shape. You may have to wear paste because you will be removing the post dam which provides better suction.

Looking for place that makes good, well fitting dentures,Sierra Vista, AZ area & not TOO expensive.?

Spent $13,000 in 2001 trying to save genetically bad tooth structure. Now the gold lined crowns are breaking off at the gum line. I am younger than most who need dentures and have been putting this off till I just cant anymore. Doctor says I will get infections in my blood and possibly even my heart because of the teeth that have broken off so far. BUT I AM SO SCARED AT HOW I WILL LOOK!!!! AND I NEED TO HAVE 22 TEETH EXTRACTED FIRST!!! I can go to Tucson, AZ (110 miles away) if I have to to get dentures that will look and fit well and not cost me an arm and a leg. (Financially, not in the position to pay a lot anymore.) Anyone with any ideas out there??? Please!!!!

Looking for place that makes good, well fitting dentures,Sierra Vista, AZ area %26amp; not TOO expensive.?
I'd say go to Tuscon and have a dentist check it out. Better to have it done now then wait. In phoenix the upper denture cost about $1500.00 and lower partial about $700.----$1200. depending on if you want metal or what they call a "soft partial" made of acrillic. Then too, you can go to Nogales for about half that price or less. I hear they do just as good of work as here. Just have to find the right dentist. Good luck
Reply:whatever you do, if at all possible, have a lower partial rather than a complete lower denture. The full lowers are terrible in terms of effectiveness- even if the partial only lasts a few years BEFORE going to a complete lower, it's a good investment!
Reply:You will definitely want to look into a discount dental plan. Most insurances annual caps are just insufficient for you. Find a plan with no limits, no waiting periods, and best savings, and make

sure they have dentists near you, or at least in Tucson. Based

on that I recommend e-healthplus.com

How do you remove partial dentures?

I know this sounds weird but my aunt can't get her partial dentures out. any suggestions?

How do you remove partial dentures?
If you are talking about a partial denture with metal clasps (hooks) that hold it in, you pull the denture out by lifting the clasps on both sides at the same time. You put one finger at the base of each clasp and pull up (or down, depending if it's on the upper jaw or lower jaw). The denture has a "path" that it is designed to follow when it's put into or removed from the mouth, and it will just slide out once the clasps are released.

If your aunt dropped her partial the last time she took it out, the metal clasps that hold the denture in could have gotten bent, and she may need to see her dentist to have the denture removed and have the clasps readjusted. If a cavity has developed in one of the clasped teeth, the clasp can get hung up in a little indentation in the tooth and can't be removed without damaging the tooth.

At any rate, if you can't help your aunt remove her partial, call her dentist, and they can arrange for her to come in. It is a 10 minute appointment to remove the denture and adjust the clasps.
Reply:If this is a new partial she may need to work with it some or even go back to the dentist office so they can help her. There is usually a "combination," such as the clasp on the left, or the one on the right side, slips up "first," then they will lift out. Just have her relax and have a cup of coffee, the heat helps to loosen them. Sometimes patients get nervous and it makes it even harder for them to remove them. So tell her to relax with the coffee or something hot to drink and try again, she will get them out eventually but don't stress over it, there is always help if needed.
Reply:It is easiest to use your fingernail over the clasp and pull down. Usually partials have a certain way to go in and come out. one side may want to come out first. If nothing helps she will need to see her dentist.

Root canals and caps, or dentures?

my dentist says she can save my teeth if i get two root canals and two caps, bc i have excellent root structure. my wife is urging me to just get them pulled, and get partials or full dentures. who should i listen to?

Root canals and caps, or dentures?
i would go with what dentist think is the best! My dentist said there's nothing like having your own teeth! I had 3 root canals and crowns for years now, it definitely saved my tooth :-)
Reply:it depends on your age, if your under 50 you should try to save your teeth, if your over 50 its ok to have them taken out to to get dentures.
Reply:Dentures are not nearly as good as your natural teeth.

Its worth saving them if possible
Reply:No to dentures. Caps are better.
Reply:It's always best to try to save the tooth. It keeps the mouth and gums in a healthier state.

Unless, of course, you have grandchildren you want to scare by taking out your dentures...
Reply:With root canals and caps you will not feel the difference with regular teeth but they are pricey.

If you remove them and get partials there will always be some discomfort it will not be the same as repairing the existing ones.

I had 4 root canals and caps and I canot tell the difference between them and my other teeth.
Reply:U will be better of if u give more weight to what ur doc says. The feeling is much better after treatment. Dentures will always be poorer in fitting and may even break. Feeling of foreign material is also not very comforting when u use dentures.
Reply:Of course, the goal is usually to save natural teeth.

But...!

Have you considered implants? I have two, and they are superb. They might as well be real; after all, they are rooted in my jawbone, just as natural teeth are.
Reply:I had two root canals and two caps. I don't have to worry about a thing, they're just teeth. I take care of them like the rest. I never have to take them out and fuss over them. Bad enough I need glasses to read, I want to eat without having to think about it.

So what's this deal with your wife? Does she begrudge you the money it will cost in order to eat comfortably? Or are you not telling us the whole story? Are these two teeth of the last five you have and she wants to see you with a full set again?
Reply:Too difficult to tell here as there are many variables.

Get a full costing. Then take copies of Xrays and seek a second opinion from another dentist or more (recommended by friends or workmates).

Big decisions require careful thinking and lots of info.
Reply:Some people still believe root canals cause all their health problems, and that's it better to extract perfectly recoverable teeth. Root canals work, and it's always better to get them instead of anything else if the teeth allow for it. There is always the risk it might fail, but the risk is very small.

I would suggest you read the following web page:

http://www.doctorspiller.com/root_canals...

"The eventual unfavorable reaction to the "orgy" of dental extractions and tonsillectomies that were advocated by the proponents of the theory eventually undermined the trust of the population."
Reply:Saving the teeth would be the optimal answer. However, RCT and crowns canbe pricey. If money is an issue, talk to your dentist about options for payment.

Do gums shrink faster wearing dentures or going toothless?

I know they shrink quite a bit right after the teeth are pulled, but I mean in the long run, do they shrink more from wearing dentures or from not wearing them? Or does it even make any difference?

Do gums shrink faster wearing dentures or going toothless?
When your teeth are pulled, the alveolar bone, (the supporting bone) really has no purpose left, and goes away. When the bone goes away, it looks like the gums are going away.

Wearing dentures or not wearing dentures has nothing to do with the bone level in your mouth.

Personally, if one of my patients talks about 'I might as well get dentures" I try to talk them into keeping as many natural teeth as possible. The dentures need that supporting bone to keep them in place, and over time, if no natural tooth or an implant is not in place, the bone is going to shrink, and one will end up having to pay money to buy denture adhesive and/or pay to get the dentures relined or get new ones all together for that proper fit. If there isn't any proper fit, that can cause a bunch of problems all together, with chronic irritation to the tissue in the mouth, etc.

I will make a suggestion: Please soak the dentures at night. Your mouth does need a break once a day from the dentures. Don't be afraid of brushing your dentures with a denture brush. I have had patients that had build up on their dentures and I had to use some of my instruments to pick at it.

In dentistry, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure (Or thousands of dollars!!)
Reply:Once ur teeth r gone, ur gums start to resorb and dentures can make it disappear faster.

Is it normal to have excess saliva while dentures are out?

I am a new denture wearer, and I know in the beginning people say you experience excess saliva with the dentures in, but I notice it while they're not in my mouth. Will this stop? I feel like I have to keep swallowing every 10 seconds, and my mouth/tongue

actually gets tired! Thanks!

Is it normal to have excess saliva while dentures are out?
It sounds like you have a very active salivary production and maybe having dentures has stimulated it even more. I truly don't know if this will lessen with time, but I must say from seeing the problems many denture wearers have with dry mouth.....I'd rather have your problem.
Reply:i also am new to the dentures just got mine June 12,,i have same situation so I'm thinking its normal adjusting to them ,i did call and ask them and that's what they said ,i haven't been able to bite down on any food yet have you,you can e mail me and compare notes on this ...good luck.

I am thinking of getting dentures and have a question?

I have a lot of porcelain crowns that I've had for about 8 years. Now they are beginning to give me problems. I have spent sooooo much money on my teeth throughout my life, and have always taken good care of them, but I still have problems constantly. My teeth are just brittle and now the crowns are starting to loosen. I am seriously thinking about dentures. My question is: Will they look like my normal teeth used to look or will they make me look totally different. I don't want it to be obvious to everyone and I don't want it to change my appearance other than just having pretty white teeth. Any advice or info?? I'm scared to do it, but I'm tired of constantly worrying about my teeth.

I am thinking of getting dentures and have a question?
PLEASE, DO NOT get dentures. They might look like real teeth to many, but savvy eyes will always spot that they're fake. Dentures will make ur breath bad and your sense of taste different. They will make ur face lose verticle dimension and make u age years in only a short time. Lower dentures only stay upright by virtue of ur tongue and their own weight so many wear them only when they go out. Also, there r plenty of ppl who can't stand their dentures so they go toothless instead bc a lot of times it will hurt 2 chew w/ them, your standard of living will most certainly go down if u get them. Plus u will only be able 2 chew w/ 10% of the force of ur natural teeth, so say goodbye 2 nuts, carrots, etc.

I don't have dentures personally, but have thought about getting fake teeth 2 bc I also have crowns and they truly r a pain in the butt in terms of cost and the constant worry that they might fall out, but after I researched a bit I found out that it's a a COMPLETE MYTH that dentures will give u "perfect" teeth.
Reply:Sorry, but I don't do emails bc of security reasons. But If I were u, I'd get removable partial dentures or a bridge if ur original teeth r missing. Whatever u do though, DO NOT get implants bc they sometimes result in total numbness of part of ur face! Report It

Reply:Dentures tend to look like dentures, your caps should last longer than 8 years. If you have the funds you might consider the screw-in type of replacement teeth.
Reply:aint nothin' like a toothless woman!!!!!!yu will be popular!!!just make sure people dont see yu without teeth!!
Reply:With the help of your dentist, you can pick out the shape and shade of the teeth that will be in your denture. My advice to you is, try to keep as many teeth as possible on the bottom. Lower dentures never fit that great, they feel like they "float".
Reply:i was so worried about that to!!! i wanted my face to stay the same. we took a picture how i looked after my braces and the dentist did what he could to match!!! and i look like i did after dentures and im quite happy!!!
Reply:they can make a molding of your teeth now to where it looks natural..but i think that is your best bet..so don;t be scared my mom had to do the same and she is alot healther and happyer to..i will pray for you
Reply:Dentures are not problem free!!! They are not Cheap either, they can cost lots of $$$.

There are some set-backs to them; Keeping them in place, sores from the rubbing or adhesive used, forgetting were you placed them, and if you drop them they break, sometimes the "teeth" can come off, etc..

You will need to be careful with what you eat!

Discus it with your dentists! Tell him what you are thinking of having done. Have him show you some dentures like the ones you would get if you go forward with it. Get the exact cost and the replacement cost!! Ask him how ofter do other people need them replaced!! What is the average financial expense?

Having as much of your own healthy teeth is always better.

Smile!

Good Luck
Reply:~~~ your crowns should last more than 8 years,,,I would suggest haveing your Dr reprep your teeth,,,have new crowns made. Its important to have your teeth as long as you can to keep your facial structure. consult your dentist with that. ~~~
Reply:Instead of dentures, you can consider implants. They cost more, involve more work, but the results are amazing. Ask your dentist.
Reply:I ended up getting upper dentures about five years ago. Compared to the teeth that I had, I am so pleased with them. That said, I do want to mention that having dentures is not the same as having real teeth. The first few weeks you have to learn how to talk again, and chewing is very different. You also have a mouth that is always full, since and upper denture is large and covers the roof of your mouth as well as your outer gums.

I do not regret getting my dentures. My teeth look so much nicer now. I did not have the income to fix my teeth at the time, and they were so brittle a french fry cracked one tooth in half.

I will avoid getting lower dentures for as long as I can, and if I do have to get them later in life, I will try to get partials. Having uppers, I can see how lowers can be difficult to fit properly.

In the end it is a personal choice though, but make sure you think the whole thing through.

Is there a product out that to whiten dentures?

My Moms dentures do not have that porcelain look, they once had. Does any one know of a product that can brighten her dentures again?

How do I tell a guy I have dentures or should I not?

I am getting ready to get dentures. I am still dating and I am not sure if I should tell my dates I have dentures. Seriously I am so scared of this.

How do I tell a guy I have dentures or should I not?
How old are you? I do not think this would be a problem with someone who cared about you.
Reply:I wouldn't tell until things got serious.
Reply:I would not tell them on the first date or even the second. How about wait to see how you feel about the person after you get to know them? If they are worth your time, they will not care.
Reply:Why tell?
Reply:oh wow i'd be scared too! But my aunt had them at a young age adn she did ok so no worries, if he truly loves you it's no big deal, so don't worry
Reply:Don't tell unless it gets really serious.
Reply:You don't have to tell him. Do you plan on taking them out and passing them around? Then no, don't tell him if you aren't comfortable with it. That is your personal info, and you don't owe anything to anyone.
Reply:Don't worry about it unless it seems really necessary to tell them...
Reply:that should be your secret no body has to know..if you end up getting serious with someone then i doubt that will become an issue with them...happens to the best of us sister
Reply:Depends on the relationship. If you are serious, then of course it will eventually be found out. Its up to you if you want him to find out through your honesty or find out by accidental reasons, like they fall out or he sees them soaking in the bathroom or something. If the relationship is just short lived, I say don't worry about it until it gets more serious. Good Luck!
Reply:let him find out when you go down on him by dropping them in a glass of water before the fun starts
Reply:Don't say anything. My friend just got them. She said that an added bonus is you can slip them out and give a fantastic BJ!
Reply:ya know-- i would be nervous about that too if it were me--how about---see if this guy is still around in about 6 months if so say hey look i have dentures--hope you dont mind---

good luck
Reply:Yes, tell them, but do it in a smart way. I can't tell you what's best, but I dated a guy who told me on our way to the car, leaving for dinner one night, when he'd forgotten his wallet or something in the house. "I hate when I forget stuff!" he said, "Like my briefcase in the morning, or to feed the cats, or to put in my teeth." I nearly died. It happens that people have bridges and dentures, but most young people don't. So be prepared that some people might be a little freaked out. Good luck, girl!
Reply:I have full uppers and it hasn't slowed me down a bit. People close to me know, the rest, it's none of their busines.

I think I want partial dentures... my teeth just continue to chip?

I am 30 now, and it seems like everytime I eat, I am chipping or breaking my teeth, the ones on the sides and in the back. I had a lot of fillings when I was young, I am thinking about partial dentures, can anyone give me a good Idea of what the porcedure is and how much this usally runs....? I have already had about 7 teeth removed now..., any good and reasonable denist in the Knoxville, Tenn area willing to drive 60 miles around... to find one

I think I want partial dentures... my teeth just continue to chip?
Teeth chip for a number of reasons: decay, trauma, grinding and bad habits. A dentist will assess these reasons to limit further damage. Teeth with large fillings may be structurally weak. Highly suggest placing crowns on the key anchor teeth prior to impressions for partials. Additional crowns may then be placed as time/finances permit. Oral hygiene is and will continue to be critical. Be sure to properly clean the clasping before placing in mouth. The clasp is often overlooked and the acid never removed. Whatever tooth is clasped is often the next filling/extraction if not cleaned well. I am from Michigan, cant help in Tenn. The fee in my area is approx $1000/partial for a metal-based partial and approx $630 for a Flexite flexible partial. I like the latter due to price and appearance-no metal hooks in the smile. The nylon base is extended to form a flexible hook and may blend in with the color of your gums to provide a natural smile. My patients really like these, but there are some drawbacks. If you lose a tooth after fabrication of partial, start over (more $)! Patients report these are very comfortable. Hope this helps!
Reply:SOME TEETH NEED TO BE EXTRACTED. THEN THERE IS A WAITING PERIOD FOR THE GUMS AND BONE TO HEAL. THEN IMPRESSIONS ARE TAKEN. THE LABORATORY MAKES THE PARTIALS AND THE DENTIST DELIVERS THEM.
Reply:Partials are a good idea when you have several teeth missing. With them you can chew your foods better and have a good digestive system. Impression are taken of your teeth and then made into a model so the frame work can be made. Then the frame has to be fitted and your bite has to be registered so the partials will fit and you can bite down correctly. When all of this has been done you are scheduled to pickup your partials and placed in your mouth. There are partials that are made with a metal frame or ones with an acrylic frame too.

Average Price For Extractions And Dentures?

Does anyone know what is the average price for a set of dentures including extractions. Looking for a walk out price.

Average Price For Extractions And Dentures?
Depends on what part of the country you live in-

I am a dental assistant in Arkansas- here it is approx. $65.00/tooth for extractions and about $1200. for the dentures- expect to pay twice that on the west coast and in the bigger cities.
Reply:close to $5000 if not more.
Reply:$120 a tooth f they pop right out. then $2000 for the complete set of teeth. it's a lot cheaper to brush and floss.

What is the cost of dentures?

I want to have all my top teeth pulled and replaced with dentures.I live in Ontario,Canada.Does anyone know of the average cost for this procedure?

What is the cost of dentures?
Look at about 75-150 per tooth for extractions, then about 1000-2000 for the upper plate depending on the materials.

The extractions are usually done in stages so be prepared to be without some teeth off and on untill the procedure is complete.

They may want to leave some teeth in. Some denists are against pulling healthy teeth. Also, having a few teeth left will help 'anchor" the plate.
Reply:Costs will vary depending on where you live and your needs. Prosthodontists' prices are typically between $500 to $2,500 per upper or lower arch. Cosmetic Dentist fees are usually $300 to $1,200 per arch. This is a procedure for which you should definitely research your dental insurance coverage. Much of the cost is often covered.
Reply:GO TO DENTURES. COM THEY HAVE REALLY CHEAP PRICES AND YOU DONT PAY FOR X-RAYS
Reply:oh u are going to love them no more problems with pain in your gums or teeth bleeding. i got mine and my lowers were250 and my top were 250 so i paid 500 for both.
Reply:there are cheap ones that don't work well and then there are the you get what you pay for ones.

one bit of advice- if there is any way - any of your teeth can be saved= it would be in your best long term interest to go with partial dentures. the partial dentures will offer you more security in that they will not move around on you- ESPECIALLY the lower one. lowers do not have the benefit of the suction the upper denture forms in the palate thus making it a little more secure. lowers have to fight your tongue and rest on a narrow ridge that will only become more narrow the older you get.
Reply:i just got my dentures (top and bottom) and they cost me 2800.00 for them and then the dentist wanted to charge me another 500.00 to put a permanent liner in them. of course i told him no, you don't always need that if they are made right.

My husband recently got 15 teeth pulled and dentures put in however I am afarid to kiss him...can anyone help?

When i was little someone spit there dentures in my shirt pocket, and I have a fear of them now. Also I am not sure if its the dentures that scare me or the gums underneath...they are all tore up from them ripping out all of his teeth.

My husband recently got 15 teeth pulled and dentures put in however I am afarid to kiss him...can anyone help?
the gums will heal in time and think of how much better your husband will feel without the pain and infection from those teeth. He will now live a longer life because recurring infections in the gums....that bacteria attacks the valves of the heart. There are lots of ways to look at it, but just talk to him, explain how you feel, and start slow. He's probably too sore to want more than a little right now anyway.
Reply:lol just a little peck
Reply:They are not all tore up, they have all healed over. This isn't the 1800's where this kind of thing is scary anymore.

Do you love him?

If so, get over it.
Reply:I would definetly wait til his mouth heals some.

I don't think you need to be afraid of them %26lt;smile%26gt;,

Give him %26amp; yourself time, you'll get used to it.
Reply:start small and work your way up as you feel more comfortable. I doubt he will be so insensitive to you to actually spit his dentures in your shirt pocket. Take it slow. Good luck.
Reply:Dentures that fit properly do not "fall out". I am sure his gums are sore; however if he wants to kiss you, do not be afraid. It may take a little time for him to adjust to the plate, but with time and patientce, the two of you should be able to engage in "deep kissing etc".
Reply:well, it's too late now, but He should have laid off the crack and took vitamins..........

Maybe you could get some denture adhesive to make them stick good in his mouth then they might not fall into your shirt pocket.

If you really love the man, massage his gums with some ambesol sweetie.
Reply:don't swap spit with hubby until his gums have healed ,he has enough bacteria of his own. after that , I know this sounds cruel but he is your husband so I will assume you love him "get over it". he will already be going through emotions without felling you are rejecting him
Reply:Interesting question, I would say he is pretty sore right now If he still want to kiss you try it .Nothing is going to “fall out” I know you had a bad experience when you was a child but I assume you love him. In other hand is more than one option in that situation, if you are not still comfortable probably he will feel bad too. Discuss the possibility of dental implants

What is it like living with new upper dentures?

Please tell me about your experience with dentures as well as foods to eat when you first get your dentures.

What is it like living with new upper dentures?
Practice, practice, practice. It takes time. If you sat down at a piano for the first time, you would not be playing classical music in a day. While I can not comment on the quality of your dentures, I can only hope that they are "just right" and that this is a matter of getting used to dentures.

Dentures are not a replacement for teeth. They are simply better than not HAVING teeth. They do take some patience on your part. You will have to start out with chewing smaller bites and trying to distribute the food a little to the left and a little to the right at the same time. You HAVE lost the taste of your food, because you have a lot of insulation in your mouth now. You probably taste half denture and half food. After a while, your sense of taste will return somewhat, but that too is an adjustment on your part.

I know that this is not very encouraging, but thousands of new denture wearers make the adjustments. If it takes a month or two, you will look back in a few years and say that it was hardly any time at all. It's just difficult to accept that while you are learning to use dentures for the first time.
Reply:i have upper dentures never had a problem with them but when you first start wearing them its hard to eat hamburgers or large sandwiches because they give a little but after awhile you ll get the hang of it and eat like normal other then that i eat the same as i did before getting them even eating peanuts and hard candy they work great
Reply:http://www.doctorspiller.com/DenturesYes...

Some people just cannot get a handle on dentures and some do fine. But you do need to know that once your teeth are gone that it is the roots of the teeth that keeps the bones strong. Once the roots are gone there is nothing to keep the jaw bone from deteriorating. Plus the friction of the denture rubbing back and forth really puts a wear and tear on the bones as well. If you can possibly afford it consider dental implants in the future. At least enough to secure the plate from movement. The implants act like roots and keep your jaw bone from deteriorating.

Anyone with dental knowledge about dentures?

can you tell me if the immeadiate dentures the ones that are placed in right after teeth are extracted can still be made if a person is missing teeth in the front-i was told a mold is made first when natural teeth are still in but if many natural teeth are already missing is it still possible to do it that way? thank you

Anyone with dental knowledge about dentures?
Regardless of how many teeth are missing, and where they were located, a preliminary impression will be taken of whatever you have. Then it goes to the lab for a tray... then a final impression is taken... then it goes back to the lab...then a bite registration is taken, along with a shade (color), then it goes back to the lab... then a try-in appointment is scheduled, the teeth are set in wax, you have to approve the shade and the size/shape of the teeth.... then it goes back to the lab to be 'finished' if all is well... when you have the teeth extracted is when you get the denture inserted. Follow-up visits are then scheduled as needed for adjustments... and then a full reline appointment is usually scheduled six months later....

This scenario is for a case where the posterior (back) teeth are extracted prior to the preliminary impression visit.
Reply:Yes they can still make a mold even if you are missing teeth.

Talk with your dentist about dental implants. They are rather expensive, but worth the end result. (You could also check with a dental school.)

Does anyone know how to remove a soft reline from dentures? I had it done, and it is horrible...do not fit now

seems dentures do not line up anymore, and left side is lower than right side on top. Also, still have to use adhesive on bottom......I am going back to dentist Monday, hopefully they can fix this.......I can't eat now.....They are immediates, and I waited 4 months for first reline, but I hate it....

Does anyone know how to remove a soft reline from dentures? I had it done, and it is horrible...do not fit now
This is normal. It sounds like you need it adjusted, let them know where it is hurting and they will adjust it. When you first get them, it may take take a few appointments to them corrected. Also, at the beginning you have to get adjusted to them and it may rub blisters, try to wait it out until the appointment, if it is too painful, leave it out when you can and eat soft food. You can go to the store and get some numbing medicine called orabase and rinse with warm salt water. Don't try to adjust them yourself, you might mess them up and need to get new ones.

Should I try to save my uppers or just get dentures?

I am already missing my front two top teeth and one top one on the side. I have fillings in all of the top teeth already and now the dentist is recommending that I continue to try to save them...but I have at least 4 new cavities and that is without even looking at ex-rays. I am so tired of spending money on dental work b/c I have no insurance. He says dentures are a bad idea, but I am so tired of not wanting to smile..(even with a partial, I am to paranoid to really smile)..Just looking for advice or experiences. By the way I am only 27. Thanks.

Should I try to save my uppers or just get dentures?
Well, I would suggest trying to keep your teeth. I know it gets old, but there is nothing like your own teeth. Think about trying to chew with plastic teeth! You are so young, I would do anything I could to save my teeth. Have you looked into Care Credit?? They have a 12 mo no interest payment plan if that's something you may be interested in. You can check it out at www.carecredit.com. Just some helpful advice........stay away from soda =). Between the sugar %26amp; the acid it's one of your teeths worst enemies. Good luck =)

Reply:well the wisdom tooth needs to go anyway.I feel your pain.I'm 40 and trying to catch up with a lifetime of neglect now.Fortunatley I'm not as far gone as you but I just paid almost 600 bucks to have my teeth cleaned and on of my front tops cracked in half about two weeks later and now it's gonna cost almost 1600 to take care of that.I know how you feel about smiling and what that does to your self esteem. It's not just the broken tooth I have now my teeth have always been yellow from smoking and generaly kinda nasty and for a long time I had a big hole in the one that's broken now.If there is any way possible save your teeth man check into the carecredit or see if your dentist will work with you.Imagine the pain of having all your top teeth pulled and I hear dentures aren't exactly a walk in the park. You really need to learn to take care of your teeth man before you loose the rest of em.Have a good deep cleaning done then brush and floss religously, and Dude, get some insurance you're gonna need it.

Any one know anything about getting the rest of your teeth pulled in one day...and getting dentures....?

I've had 13 teeth pulled this year in the process of getting full dentures.have 12 left to get pulled in one morning...and getting immediate full dentures....do you have any advice or tips on going through this ordeal..? Any pros and cons you know of with dentures...?

Any one know anything about getting the rest of your teeth pulled in one day...and getting dentures....?
I just got my dentures (temporary ones) on Friday of last week. I had 20 teeth pulled and now have my temporaries. I will get my Premium Dentures in a few months. I got a full set on top and a partial on the bottom. I am doing pretty well. Still not eating steaks but can eat spaghetti and meatballs, pudding, soup, etc. The worst part is the tenderness after the pain is gone. But, it has been almost a week and I am better now than the beginning of the week. The dentist did give me a sedative to take an hour before I got my teeth pulled and a pain prescription for Hydrocodone.+ 1 refill....WOOHOO. Not bad after it is all over but I have already had to go for an adjustment since my gums are healing. But it's all good and it is for the better in the long run at least for me since I had to get them out due to medical reasons. My cavities were affecting my heart as I had infections from the teeth. But, I do have a GREAT smile now....hehehe Good Luck!
Reply:Original teeth are better than fake ones(dentures), why wanna pull them out if they're alright? Unless you have bad cavities. If u need to, go under full GA (general aenestethics).
Reply:My husband had his entire upper teeth replaced with a full denture due to unchecked gum disease. He has lived with the denture for a few years now and is looking into getting dental implants because he hates the denture. It's uncomfortable and needs periodic adjustments. I am sorry you need to go through this; it sucks. (Not everyone experiences the same thing, though.) As for the dental process in general, I always find it helpful to take a decent dose of Motrin prior to any major dental work, even if they are going to deaden my mouth, because it helps with the ache after the Novocaine wears off. And if the dentist doesn't offer it, ASK for a prescription for pain. Most dentists are happy to write a SMALL scrip for you to ease your suffering. As for the dentures themselves, they are easy to take care of. Just be absolutely sure they are fitted properly, and also be sure your dentist will take care of any adjustments free of charge. You should NOT have to pay for additional adjustments!
Reply:Well your doctor will most likely advise you to not remove your denture for atleast 24 hours so that the swelling does not go beyond them, that is a very important rule to follow because if you do take them out before hand you most likely are not going to get them back in!! Also after the 24 hours start your warm salt water rinses so that you keep the area nice and clean. Make sure you stick to a soft diet, and stay up on your nutrients like drinking boost or slim fast meal replasement drinks, they have a lot of viatamins. Your body is going to be using everyting it's got to heal that area so don't run it low in fuel and get plenty of rest, those are key factors to a nice and smooth healing process.
Reply:As with any artificial replacement part for the human body there are good points and bad points. You need to know that dentures are not real teeth and do not function the same way as real teeth. Appearence wise they may fool most people but when it comes to eating- it takes time to get used to them and learn to use them.

There are also emotional issues you learn to deal with. You are having a very visible part of your body essentially removed and replaced. It is a removable replacement and it could slip at the worst possible moment.

Along with those emotional side effects also consider your relationships with people. Getting immediate dentures will spare you the embarrassment and stigma of not having any teeth but they will require more work on your part and that of the dentist to ensure a good fit.

If you maintain a good positive attitude and work with the dentist then you can have a good outcome.

It takes time!

Reply:You can not select chewing gums that do not stick on dentures and if ever there are, it is not that popular to be available in most supermarket. I have dentures and I have the same problems. What I do is to have chewing gums in my room so that when I have to chew the gum, I have to remove first my denture. In public places, I have tried several chewing gums already but all are really sticking with the dentures. May be the problem should instead be posed to the dentists to make dentures that do not stick to the chewing gum.

One technique I do is to chew the gum slowly and try to avoid it to come in contact with the denture and avoid sticking the gum with it. You need to practice that in your room.
Reply:I was always told sugar free wouldn't stick to dental appliances.

Girls would you date a guy with dental implants or dentures?

I guess i'm paranoid b/c people keep saying that I won't lose my teeth as long as I take care of them. If a guy did lose any teeth though, but got dental implants or dentures or something would you still go out with him?

Girls would you date a guy with dental implants or dentures?
the dental implants doesnt sound so horrible, but the dentures doesnt paint a stimulating picture in my head or nether regions. lol
Reply:I would

but if he lost them from gum disease because he didn't take

good care of them, and had poor oral hygiene, that's just gross.

By the way, I met my husband in the dental office where I worked

on him, and I thought, "He has nice teeth, I'd go out with him."

He asked me out that day and we went out the next night!

What would be the cause of bleeding under your top dentures?

when you remove your top dentures and go to pit in the sink and there is always blood would anyone know what the cause could be.

What would be the cause of bleeding under your top dentures?
even though i am only 16 i know all about dentures. i have both upper and lower. the bleeding is most likely caused from an irritation from the dentures rubbing or pressing against your gums. their might be a shape edge too. you should bring them to the dentist and they can fix them easily. it doesn't take long either.
Reply:your gums are irritated and you need to rest them without the dentures. also, i hope you are using a good seal for them.

Is it safe to put dentures in an ultrasonic cleaner ?

The upper dentures accumulate a lot of tartar and plaque that won"t come off with a toothbrush. I am wondering if an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner filled with water work better than a toothbrush.

Is it safe to put dentures in an ultrasonic cleaner ?
Yes, you can do that. My dentist does it all the time. You can use a denture cleaner that you buy from the store, just not one that foams up too much - or maybe your dentist (or denturist) can give you a sample of what they use. It is a bit stronger. Soak/vibrate in the ultrasonic for a few minutes. Then take a denture brush (or a hard toothbrush) and brush them. If the tartar is still stuck on, your dentist or hygienist can scale them for you in the same way that they would on your natural teeth. Then it should be a lot easier to keep them clean with regular maintenance. Hope this helps. =)
Reply:sometimes you can use a wire brush
Reply:Only if you take them out of your mouth first.

Im 28- should I get dentures???

Anyone ever get teeth out due to condition/crooked and gotten dentures, bridges something like that? they really are that bad and if i want to get every tooth fixed it costs so much more.

im scared about the pain and dont want it to turn out horrible

Im 28- should I get dentures???
First, I would do everything possible to save as many teeth as possible. Yes, depending on what is needed you may have need a lot of work and it may be expensive. Visit your dentist and see what you need. Then ask about financing options, etc. or do one side at time until your mouth is restored. In the long run...dentures this early is not going to be ideal unless all your teeth are beyond repair- if that is the case..then you may want to ask your dentists about implant retained dentures.
Reply:Dentures would require you having to remove a lot of your teeth-and you'd wear dentures over bare gums which can be very painful. Talk to your dentist about veneers first-they actually use your teeth to glue them to and they can do some very beautiful work! It's expensive, and since you're so young you may need them redone again down the road, but I've seen some incredible results! Good Luck!
Reply:Sweetie, isn't there anyway you can get braces for the crookedness? Or if your teeth are decayed, are they in too bad of shape to crown or cap? Dentures is a last resort. Please contact an orthodonist before you make this move.
Reply:AND WHEN U WILL SLEEP AT NIGHT U WILL HAVE TO KEEP THE DENTURES IN WATER.

AND WHEN YOU ARE EATING LUNCH AT RESTAURANT AND A STICKY THINGS TAKES THE DENTURE OUT HOW IT WILL LOOK?
Reply:What about lumineers or veeners to fix your front teeth that are crooked?
Reply:I think you're putting the cart before the horse. To replace crooked teeth with a denture is like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

#1 get yourself in to a dentist and see what work you need done.

#2 Crooked teeth are usual a job for an Orthodontist and braces are a much better option than having all your teeth removed. By the time you'd pay for all of the teeth being removed and dentures placed, you'd probably be up to the approximate cost for having ortho tx done. Do the ortho!!

#3 You are very young and to take out all those teeth at such an early age will mean that by the time you are a senior citizen you will most likely have no ridge for a denture to sit on anymore,so you would have a tough time eating, among a lot of other things.

#4 Take care of your teeth when you are young and they will take care of you when you are old.
Reply:well, if you get dentures then its nawt gonna hurt cause if its anything like getting a tooth pulled which it is they give you a shot and then you cant feel anything. I just hate the sound of the tooth coming out (crack, crackcrack) Yuuuck

I wouldnt at 28 get invisiline it will help straighten without the pain of braces!

Should I go ahead with dentures?

I have terrible teeth and am considering having my top teeth pulled and replaced with dentures.I have buck teeth that are large and decaying.I also have chipped teeth. What are the average costs of this procedure in Canada? Any suggestions?Thank You.

Should I go ahead with dentures?
don't get dentures.....get veneers....they drill down your teeth and then replace them with new and straight white teeth
Reply:i thought all medical fees in Canada are free?
Reply:do it if it will make you feel better about yourself
Reply:Check out dental implants as well. The local docs say that your quality of life is better with them.
Reply:I wish I could afford to have it done. After so many pregnancies my teeth are breaking off and are in horrible condition.
Reply:I wouldn't get dentures, I think veneers would be better looking, and easier to deal with than dentures, I don't know exactly how much dentures cost, but I know veneers are probably more expensive.
Reply:all my upper teeth were bad , had all pulled and got dentures. love them and I need to do my lower teeth.

, first have to save and get those pulled
Reply:not sure about canada, but i just got an upper denture and a lower partial here in the US,the cost was around 3500 dollars US.

I am beginning to be able to eat more solid foods after 2 weeks and an most pleased with the fact that i can smile again
Reply:You would make a very silly decision right now and highly regret it when you're much older. There's nothing better than having your original teeth. So you should get off that topic right now.

Although, I do highly recommend you put a little bit of research into Lumineers, as I have heard excellent results and stories from people I've personally dealt with in the past.

Lumineers by Cerinate is a cosmetic procedure. Mind you, it can get very costly. Visit my source for more information and prices.

i have bad teeth that are crooked with coca cola stains and coffee stains and no emanl on myteeth and cacluim decay and they said only thing they cuold do is maybe veneers but i dunno what do to buy you can live with you teeth or maybe get veneers or maybe try teeth briters and teeth streathers
Reply:In Canada It's free until a certain age. I got a denture at 19 yrs old in canada and it was like about $1000.00(In Quebec) (I already had two teeth removed) Check with your dentist he should be able to tell you how much

It is really not expensive compare to USA. I went to the dentist once and he removed one of my tooth and it was like $245.00 just for one!!! in canada it was like $35.00 to get one tooth remove.
Reply:try to save whatever teeth you can and go with p[artials instead. you will never be happy with dentures , you cannot chew your food as efficiently as your natural teeth and the lower dentures are very hard to adjust to unless you have the will of steel

Swelling after upper teeth removal and immediate upper dentures?

I had 9 upper teeth removed yesterday and an immediate denture put in. The new teeth are pretty but my upper lip looks puffed out like a monkey. Do you think it's just swelling or did they make the gum area too big? Will it look more natural after my gums shrink? I'm only 40 years old and don't want these dentures to look obvious. I'm worried.

Swelling after upper teeth removal and immediate upper dentures?
The swelling and the monkey lip is pretty normal. It is a combination of the effects of the extractions and the new foreign body now in place in your mouth. As the swelling goes down and you become accustom to wearing the denture, your lip will return to normal.

Also since this is an immediate denture, there may be the need to make some adjustments to it for both a better fit and for appearance sake.

I suggest keeping a small notebook handy and write down your experiences and comments- pro and con. Share these with the dentist so he/she gets a sense of what you are experiencing. Writing it down is helpful because we all get caught up in the moment in the dentist chair and it is usually no fun talking with to them with your teeth out.

Good luck and feel free to contact me if you want more input

Sandy- full dentures- 7 years
Reply:you will have swelling and the purpose of putting the dentures in after the removal of teeth is to help set your gums to mold them into place with the denture. You will be swollen and the swelling will go down but you have had some serious trauma to your mouth give it a few days.
Reply:Sounds normal. I am sure your new choppers are beautiful
Reply:There is doubtless some swelling, but you're just going to have to wait and see. The lab usually extends the front flange of the denture out under the lip to make sure it doesn't interfere with the gum after the extractions. Remember that this denture is made on an altered model--the teeth are broken off and the model is shaved to an approximation of what the gums will look like after the extractions.

It is possible that the denture flange is holding your lip out. It is quite possible that even if this is true your lip will drape more normally after a few days as your musculature gets used to the denture. If not, it may be possible (as long as the position of the teeth is correct) to reline the denture (either chairside or at a lab) and then grind back the flange so it doesn't puff out your teeth. Your dentist should have told you that a reline will likely be necessary in 6-12 months anyhow.

Steve Bornfeld, DDS
Reply:swelling is normal, but should subside.

you have to remember that the dentures have to be thick to fit and hold onto your jaw, the part on the front was never there before because the roots of your teeth were inside the jaw. you will get used to it.

usually you go back to have the fit checked and adjusted a couple of weeks later. so if it still feels too think see if the dentist can think them a little.
Reply:Swelling is normal following extractions, especially 9 of them, and the insertion of an immediate denture.

The swelling will decrease, so don't stress! You'll be returning to your dentist's office for adjustments, so if the flange is a concern, it can be adjusted easily, giving you a less 'full' feeling....

Be patient, you'll feel/look better in no time!

Should a dentist be present when relining your dentures for the 1st and 2nd time? should he check out his asst
Actually alot of dentist rely on their assistants to do the "little" stuff however I do believe that the dentist should be present or atleast check the impressions before they are sent out for relining. I am a Dental Technician and work in a lab so I see this kind of stuff all the time. If you are paying everytime to have your dentures relined I can assure you that your dentist is not!!!! You should say something to them most definately because it is not the assistant getting paid for his job!!! I know that dentists these days let alot of their responsibilities be taken by their employees so say something.
Reply:Yes, he should.
Reply:Dentists often let their assistants to do the relines. If you are unhappy with them, let them know so they can fix them.

Questions for people on this group that use dentures.?

Hello, Simple Question, Is there a trick to stop the slobber that I get when using dentures in my mouth? It is constant, with my mouth closed, doesn't slobber when i dont have the dentures in.

Questions for people on this group that use dentures.?
Try useing the power adheasive.(sorry for the bad spelling)

I used to use the paste and I had the same thing happen. Also make sure they arnt loose. If I wear mine to long (over say, 15 hours) the stuff that holds them in comes loose and I get that effect worse. Good Luck :)
Reply:I only had the problem for the first few months after geting my upper plate. I used polygrip and it worked. I know we are all different, but that worked for me.

How do I tell a guy I have dentures or should I not?

I am getting ready to get dentures. I am still dating and I am not sure if I should tell my dates I have dentures. Seriously I am so scared of this.

How do I tell a guy I have dentures or should I not?
If you haven't got them yet, so what do your teeth look like now? I imagine with the dentures there'll be an improvement so what's the fuss?

Anyway, why do you need to tell him? If he then says to you "wow your teeth look so cool, what did you have done?" Just tell him you had a teeth job cos it made YOU feel better about yourself. END OF.
Reply:doesn;t need to know until you are getting serious
Reply:I wouldn't say anything at all until you're serious. When you go on a weekend trip together or he spends the night, he'll figure it out.

They aren't a big deal. Don't sweat it.
Reply:just tell him at an appropriate time. like don't wait till you get ready to kiss, tell him ahead of time.
Reply:I can relate sweetie. I have a bottom partial and am about to get a divorce, so I am wondering the same thing. I have decided after the relationship gets to a point that I am comfortable then I will tell them. After all, if someone was wearing a padded bra or slimmer stocking they wouldn't tell the guy right away, right?
Reply:I wouldn't tell them. Like the other girl said they don't need to know.
Reply:Why should you offer the information, do they really need to know?

That's your personal business and if your dentures fit well and look great---the heck with letting anyone know! It's not something you would advertise as some people do not like that idea. So hopefully you'll get your dentures and they will look awesome.

Don't worry about and Good Luck!
Reply:At the appropriate time in the relationship you will know you can trust the person you are seeing and by then you will know some of their secrets.

Dentures should not keep you from enjoying life. No one is perfect. I don't think I would just tell him for the possible shock value. Get the dentures, learn to wear them, eat with them and make sure they are fitting properly and most likely he will have no clue until you are ready.
