Am I going to regret getting dentures??

My teeth are all rotting and breaking and they hurt all the time. (I was allergic to milk as a baby and never grew to like the taste)! I have no insurance and to get the broken ones fixed and pulled etc is about 2000.00 but I'm worried about after that...the others breaking and being an ongoing battle. I haven't been able to smile without my hand over my mouth for years. I have to do the closed mouth smile in all of my pics and it looks stupid! I have heard that dentures hurt all the time and it looks gross when you eat. Anyone with dentures, please help!!! I'm tired of hurting and having gross teeth! What do I do?

Am I going to regret getting dentures??
Most patients in your situation, who are dealing with constant pain due to the decayed teeth and abscesses tend to handle dentures well. It is an adjustment for anyone to make. Most denture patients first response to their new dentures, is their beautiful smile. After years of having the "hand over the mouth smile" they are able to smile without doing that, and most say they can actually eat better or with less pain. Depending on your age and the severity of the decay with your dentition, will determine how well you adjust. Discuss your fears with your dentist, he will be able to reassure you and give you all of the pros and cons of dentures; adjustments to eating, cleaning them, having re-lines later, immediate dentures also several adjustment will need to be made to the dentures when you first get them. Good luck with your pending procedures.

Additional information: Usually the younger patients such as your self, have a little more difficulty adjusting to wearing dentures. Once all of the teeth are extracted there is no putting them back so you must be certain with your decision. Another option would be to save the cuspids for anchorage with an over denture or possibly some implants to give you some retention with the denture. You may want to discuss this further with your dentist and see what other measures he may advise.

Additional information: Yes, I believe the ten cokes a day would definitely cause excessive decay to occur. I'm sorry to say that you have been the major contributor to your dental problems. Discuss your options with your dentist. Good luck.
Reply:You will rejoice instead.
Reply:Just because you were allergic to milk should not be the reason why all your teeth are rotten. Make sure there are no other habits and if there are stop them otherwise you're not doing your teeth any good. Sometimes dentures are your only option if all your teeth are beyond repair.
