I have a lot of porcelain crowns that I've had for about 8 years. Now they are beginning to give me problems. I have spent sooooo much money on my teeth throughout my life, and have always taken good care of them, but I still have problems constantly. My teeth are just brittle and now the crowns are starting to loosen. I am seriously thinking about dentures. My question is: Will they look like my normal teeth used to look or will they make me look totally different. I don't want it to be obvious to everyone and I don't want it to change my appearance other than just having pretty white teeth. Any advice or info?? I'm scared to do it, but I'm tired of constantly worrying about my teeth.
I am thinking of getting dentures and have a question?
PLEASE, DO NOT get dentures. They might look like real teeth to many, but savvy eyes will always spot that they're fake. Dentures will make ur breath bad and your sense of taste different. They will make ur face lose verticle dimension and make u age years in only a short time. Lower dentures only stay upright by virtue of ur tongue and their own weight so many wear them only when they go out. Also, there r plenty of ppl who can't stand their dentures so they go toothless instead bc a lot of times it will hurt 2 chew w/ them, your standard of living will most certainly go down if u get them. Plus u will only be able 2 chew w/ 10% of the force of ur natural teeth, so say goodbye 2 nuts, carrots, etc.
I don't have dentures personally, but have thought about getting fake teeth 2 bc I also have crowns and they truly r a pain in the butt in terms of cost and the constant worry that they might fall out, but after I researched a bit I found out that it's a a COMPLETE MYTH that dentures will give u "perfect" teeth.
Reply:Sorry, but I don't do emails bc of security reasons. But If I were u, I'd get removable partial dentures or a bridge if ur original teeth r missing. Whatever u do though, DO NOT get implants bc they sometimes result in total numbness of part of ur face! Report It
Reply:Dentures tend to look like dentures, your caps should last longer than 8 years. If you have the funds you might consider the screw-in type of replacement teeth.
Reply:aint nothin' like a toothless woman!!!!!!yu will be popular!!!just make sure people dont see yu without teeth!!
Reply:With the help of your dentist, you can pick out the shape and shade of the teeth that will be in your denture. My advice to you is, try to keep as many teeth as possible on the bottom. Lower dentures never fit that great, they feel like they "float".
Reply:i was so worried about that to!!! i wanted my face to stay the same. we took a picture how i looked after my braces and the dentist did what he could to match!!! and i look like i did after dentures and im quite happy!!!
Reply:they can make a molding of your teeth now to where it looks natural..but i think that is your best bet..so don;t be scared my mom had to do the same and she is alot healther and happyer to..i will pray for you
Reply:Dentures are not problem free!!! They are not Cheap either, they can cost lots of $$$.
There are some set-backs to them; Keeping them in place, sores from the rubbing or adhesive used, forgetting were you placed them, and if you drop them they break, sometimes the "teeth" can come off, etc..
You will need to be careful with what you eat!
Discus it with your dentists! Tell him what you are thinking of having done. Have him show you some dentures like the ones you would get if you go forward with it. Get the exact cost and the replacement cost!! Ask him how ofter do other people need them replaced!! What is the average financial expense?
Having as much of your own healthy teeth is always better.
Smile!
Good Luck
Reply:~~~ your crowns should last more than 8 years,,,I would suggest haveing your Dr reprep your teeth,,,have new crowns made. Its important to have your teeth as long as you can to keep your facial structure. consult your dentist with that. ~~~
Reply:Instead of dentures, you can consider implants. They cost more, involve more work, but the results are amazing. Ask your dentist.
Reply:I ended up getting upper dentures about five years ago. Compared to the teeth that I had, I am so pleased with them. That said, I do want to mention that having dentures is not the same as having real teeth. The first few weeks you have to learn how to talk again, and chewing is very different. You also have a mouth that is always full, since and upper denture is large and covers the roof of your mouth as well as your outer gums.
I do not regret getting my dentures. My teeth look so much nicer now. I did not have the income to fix my teeth at the time, and they were so brittle a french fry cracked one tooth in half.
I will avoid getting lower dentures for as long as I can, and if I do have to get them later in life, I will try to get partials. Having uppers, I can see how lowers can be difficult to fit properly.
In the end it is a personal choice though, but make sure you think the whole thing through.
